Poppy's life is partly linked to the history of Carbonia, a little town located in Sulcis area in South-West Sardinia.
Carbonia was born in 1938 of the need to exploit the lignite in an almost uninhabitated area. The mines'opening promoted such a migratory flow of people from several part of Sardinia and from the rest of Italy that Carbonia was soon populated.
In 1947, Angioni Salvatore from Norbello and Lilliu Angela from Terralba took over the building where now Poppy's pub is: they are Franco Angioni's parents, who is pub's current owner. But the building was born at the beginning of XIX century (so even before Carbonia's birth!) and it was used also as an armoury, a coal or carpenter shop. Franco's parents came in Carbonia on the occasion of coal-mines'opening and they turned the structure into a little inn called "Bar del minatore" until
1984.
Meanwhile in 1982 the younger Angioni leaves for England for the first time: it will become one of his favourite destination so that he will live in London for 7 years in all. These visits give birth to a Franco's idea about an old English pub in his
land.
Then, in 1984, coming back from one of that kind of british visits, he decides to start the building's remaking; after the works were finished, a new pub was born called "Hayley's pub", from the name of the comlet star you could really see in that year. But the pub took the name "Poppy" just in 1986, from Franco's nickname by his friends.
In 1989 the 2nd remaking started in order to offer the pizzeria room, besides the fast food's one. From 1993 to 1995 december 16th, the pub keeps closed because of the 3rd and most important remaking: during this time, Franco only works as Charles Wells beer's importer and
distributor.

At the moment, Poppy's hall is the
Ale-house dominated by the imposing wooden bench; if you look over, you can see the big room for Restaurant and
Pizzeria. All the guests feel immediatly at ease in Poppy's Pub that really looks like the Old English
ones.
Furthermore we have to underline the great care Franco Angioni devoted for pub's furnishings: from the doors to the tables, from the bench to the shown articles, all the things really are antiques coming from Old English Pubs.
The whole building, as you can see it at present, is the result from its 3rd remaking (1993-95); during the works, special cares have been dedicated to the original stuff's respect and its reuse: so you can see in Poppy's the wood , coming from the old owner's house, that still keeps the ancient structural strenght, making Poppy's pub a real witness about local history.
But now we would like to commend the owner's care in choosing wholemeal and biological products for his cooking: whether in pizzeria or in restaurant, they always are fresh and local. Everyday, you can taste bread cooked in the firewooden oven for lunch or dinner.
In summertime, the guests can make use of a big open terrace under wooden cover: it's completely in the greenery and it's got 300 covers more. Furthermore you can listen to live music by known musicians, also coming from England.
In Poppy's you can have your private party or birthday's parties for children (from 6.30 to 8.30 p.m.).
Finally, there's a big parking just in front of Poppy's pub.

As for the upper floor, there's a plan for a near remaking in order to carry out a little restaurant that shall offer an excellent service for the more exacting
costumers.
So everyone could choose the size of the food, before its cooking; furthermore, during the same meal, the costumer could select several kinds of wine, in accordance the courses he have choosen
before.In the main this restaurant will be based on typical Sardinian cooking and its excellent wines: that's to increase the value of local cuisine.
